Snuggles and meeting dad
Another amazing week with these little beauties! Every day, they are more alert and doing new things. More and more puppy play and wrestling behaviors… so funny to watch. They’re all still gaining weight each day and tried their first taste of dog food. It gets soaked to mush, then blended to a pulp for this first week. It’s super messy and they get it everywhere! They all like it and try to gobble it up, step in it and get it everywhere.
This week I’ll try to get some good pictures that show more of their markings. Puppy pics are hard. They’re either sleeping in a pile or moving around so quick that I miss the pup or it’s blurry. I’ll try to tell them to stay still for some photos!
Greta has had a challenge feeding so many hungry mouths. We make her nurse every 3-4 hours so she doesn’t get too engorged. The pups go nuts as soon as she is stepping into the box to feed them. With such a large litter, we were going to move them to the big kid kennel so they could have more space, but the vet thought it best to wait a few more days so as not to disturb Greta’s nursing routine until the pups are getting mush food every day.
The pups are more cuddly and snuggly and like to nestle in for a nice holding session. Every day, every pup gets snuggled multiple times by me, my husband, and my sister (we’re the only people allowed to hold them at this point in their development). In two weeks, they’ll start getting much more socializing as they are developmentally ready for it and their little immune systems are good and stable.
One more thing, Daddy (Watson) got to meet them for the first time today. He’s not too sure about these little busy, wiggly, loud things :). He’s had the same reaction before. In a few weeks he’ll decide they are actually kind of fun to play with!
